LUFT

This project aims to extrapolate the aesthetic of Hans Wegners’ work into todays design world

To begin this project I researched a plethora of famous chair designers including designers such as Ray and Charles Eames, Alvar Aalto, Harry Bertoia and Hans Wegner. It was Wegners work that really captured my attention and what I looked to for inspiration. He often described his own work as having organic functionality, with a distinct European style that is evident through all of his designs. His high level of craft and clever designs inspires the furniture design market to this very day.

Final Concept

My final concept pulls inspiration from Hans Wegner - specifically his 1963 Shell chair. My choices in material and finish derive from certain aesthetics found in mid-century modern European furniture design. In order to represent these aesthetics, I focused on choosing materials and colors that have high contrast while simultaneously maintaining uniformity in its entirety.
